My last day of the 30 Days of Positive Thought was officially Wednesday, however, bloop was doing something weird (saying that my account couldn't be found when I tried to log in) so I wrote my entry at journalcommunity and then that site went down...then the rest of the week was a bit of a blur so I didn't get back online to re-write that entry.
So here's the conclusion of my 30 Days of Positive Thought
Day 27 (Sun May 5, 2008) Wasn't on-call since I had extended family in town
Day 28 (Mon May 6, 2008) I got to leave work at 4:30
Day 29 (Tues May 7, 2008) I didn't apologize for something that wasn't my fault (seems small, but I apologize to everyone for every little thing - even helping sometimes - so that was a big thing for me!)
Day 30 (Wed May 8, 2008) I got an encouraging e-mail from one of my bosses about doing such a great job (which was really nice after Tuesday's crappy day) and I got to feeling better (I'd been feeling terrible Mon-about half of Wed)
Yay.....I did it, I made it through the challange (even if writing about it was slightly delayed)
The first of last week sucked. I didn't feel well, then Tuesday was rough....but I won't really get into why, Wednesday I started to feel better but was put behind with my work so the day was spent feeling about 70% better and having to play catch up.
Thursday and Friday though weren't too bad. I was feeling 90% better on Thursday and was my old self by Friday. Though I didn't push myself because I didn't want to make myself sick again or catch something else.
Saturday I was served breakfast in bed by Chris and Bas! I was impressed that Chris got up so early to do it, I was actually still asleep when he brought my tray of yummy food. They thought of things to make/serve that spelled MOM. Muffin, Omelette, Mango-Orange Juice. It was really sweet.
Chris also let me open my Mother's Day presents a day early! That in itself was a gift. Those that know me really well know that I don't care for having to wait for presents.
The gifts from him and Bas were, as always, very thoughtful and touching.
I've been wanting to start collecting some Willow Tree figurines (I must admit it was Robin who introduced those to me in her entries and then when I saw them in a store I completely understood the charm)
so Chris got me the Mother and Son figure
and the With Affection figure
He also got me a box of Godiva Truffles
The rest of the day was spent running errands. We ate lunch at this sandwich place called Lee's Sandwiches (apparently there are a lot in California, 2 in Texas, 1 in Arizona and 1 here in Oklahoma City) they serve a wide varity of sandwiches and smoothies. They also have very good homemade ice cream. Well after we ate we decided to get some ice cream there. Chris got coffee flavored tirrimisu and I got hazelnut ice cream.
Bas got durian ice cream.
Durian for those that don't know is a very pungent-smelling fruit that can be found in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and Malaysia (I remember it from watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" show when he visited Vietnam, I believe).
Here's a picture of durian (not in ice cream form)
I knew Bas wasn't going to like it but let him get it anyway....it's not everyday you see something like that and I've heard that durian is banned in some places because of the way it smells so I was curious.
It was hands down the grossest thing I've ever tasted. The best way to describe it was like melon mixed with a sweaty old gym sock....and an aftertaste something like blue cheese. Chris tried it and agreed as well. And Bas after 3 adventuresome spoonfuls also concured that he didn't like it all that much.
After lunch we dropped off some boxes at a thrift store and then went to the pet store to get some food and such for our managerie-o-pets. Then we came home and worked on some more spring cleaning and then went to dinner with my sister to Zio's. The wait was hella long but worth it. Chris and I made it an early night.
Today Chris had to work at Barnes and Nobles from 8:30a to 3:00p. So while he was at work I did some more spring cleaning as well as normal housework. When he got home we made a grocery list and went to the store. We did a BBQ meant for our moms but my mom was hit by what sounds like a tummy bug so she stayed at home. We ended up having my mom-in-law, my sister, brother-in-law and a couple of neighbor kids (who kind of invited themselves) to dinner. It was nice though. We got paper plates and plastic cups and didn't really spend a lot of time cooking so we got to visit more with our guests. It's been a long time since we've entertained at our house so it was nice to be able to do that again....I plan on trying to do that more often in the near future.
